Newman Women’s Shelter (NWS) offers short term crisis accommodation for women over the age of 18 and their children who need a safe place to stay. Women staying at the Shelter are offered access to wrap around support services to help in the journey of breaking free from family and domestic violence. The shelter has the capacity to accommodate five families, with a maximum of 15 persons. The facility was purposefully designed to cater to the requirements of larger families, including those with disabilities and male children up to the age of 12.
NWS Support Advocates work alongside women to provide an integrated service and develop safety plans specific to the individuals’ needs, and which aims to empower individuals, build capacity, and increase client safety and wellbeing. The support provided at Newman Women’s Shelter includes:
- Emotional support
- Information and referral to relevant services
- Financial support and practical assistance
- Counselling
- Case management
- Conducting risk assessments
- Safety plans
